Easy Way To Quit Smoking

Friday, September 10th, 2010

This piece is all about my adventures in giving up smoking using the “Easy Way to Quit Smoking” methodology by Allen Carr.

I’ve been a non-smoker for three years now and I honestly feel a bit like I have kicked the habit once and for all.

Easy Way to Quit Smoking

Though it was not necessarily like this…

For several years I used to be a secret smoker and did not tell my folks about my habit.

I told myself that if they did not know it had been a positive because then I’d smoke less, but to be truthful I think I was just kidding myself.

The reality is that I felt sorry and cunning … And also had plenty of nervousness that they’d find out my secret.

So for a year I attempted a whole range of quit smoking methods including….

Patches - 1 month fail
Laser care - did not even stop
Cold turkey - 2 day fail

I’m so feeble ;- )

Nothing seemed to work until my best friend got me the Allen Carr book for a birthday gift.

The most important thing about Allen carr is that he used to be a chain smoker and then one day he gave up using hypnosis.

But he was not prepared to except the hypnosis was sorcery, so he did a whole load of analysis and discovered the explanations that hypnosis can often make giving up so easy.

Let me ask you a question…

Has there ever been a time in the time when you went for three or four hours without a smoke, and did not even give it some thought. ?

Me too ;- )

What Allen did was learn exactly how this works step by step, and how it’s possible for you to prolong this relaxed feeling to make handing over a piece of cake.

The technique is simple and it basically goes like so :

1. Make a final, 100% call to give up.
2. Be ecstatic that you do not have smoke anymore.

I know this sounds a bit like a joke but there are some key ideas you want to learn before you can actually feel assured with what I just recounted.

Well I’m no exspert but for what it’s worth, I believe I was able to give up so easily because I first made the firm 100% call never to smoke again, and then had the hypnosis course to help with the longings.

If you’re truly bored with smoking I suspect this stuff might work for you too.

Smokers May Need Oxygen Therapy

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Smokers have been around for decades and even though today’s smokers have run out of excuses, there are still many youngsters who are or will become smokers in due course. Of these, both the new smokers and the older smokers, a very large percentage will develop lung and breathing problems.

An important percentage of these smokers, including ex-smokers, will eventual suffer from chronic pulmonary disease. All smokers run this risk and in fact 20% of them will develop COPD. And of all COPD sufferers, 90% of them did smoke in the past. When you translate these percentages into real figures the results number in the millions - and yet there are new smokers all the time.

For most people this will mean a lot of suffering, reduced activities, general weakness and the need for a continuous use of extra oxygen and the lungs can no longer absorb the required amount (no oxygen - no life).

Your best bet is to stop smoking and even if this is not an iron clad guarantee that you won’t develop COPD (the damage has been done), it will certainly reduce the over all damage.

Oxygen therapy is being prescribed for most cases and the statistical results are that life expectancy is much greater. Thanks to this therapy patients are no longer lost in a maze of clinics, but can now keep on practicing most normal activities. Receiving oxygen and being active allows patients to breathe (simplistic but true) and also to be able to maintain a life style with a certain amount of activity. This is recognized to be really important as physical health and psychological well being do go hand in hand.

A couple of things more.

Prevention, as they say, is the best medicine. There is a general consensus that smoking is bad for you and so legislation has focused on this. (Whether it is concern for public health or concern for the cost of medication and treatment is another thing). In the meantime many millions of ex smokers, who are growing older will develop pulmonary diseases.

The second relates to activity and quality of life. Home-stationary oxygen delivery machines are available as are portable oxygen tanks, cylinders and concentrators. These are also been constantly upgraded, bettered and even redesigned all of which will provide greater levels of activity and mobility.

It used to be that a patient that needed oxygen full time would be stuck to a clinic. If extra oxygen had to be given on a partial basis (not 24/7), then continuous visits had to be made. Now patients can get home oxygen systems as well as portable ones. This has made a great difference from all points of view - work, social activities and travel, both short distances and even flights. As a point of fact, the FAA has authorized certain oxygen concentrators on board flights.

Aside from these there is a whole range of accessories that are used - these include oximeters to measure oxygen blood saturation, cannulas (those hoses that deliver the oxygen to the nose or mouth) flow regulators.

Extra Oxygen For Smokers

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Millions of people have breathing problems as a result of smoking at one time or another, and at the same time a great number of people are still smoking and newbies are constantly joining them. A number of current smokers and future smokers will develop severe and chronic breathing problems.

It is a fact of life that many smokers will end up suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Around 20% of all smokers end up with ” COPD” and over 90% of COPD sufferers were smokers. Even though the figures speak for themselves every day new smokers are born.

So what happens when you develop COPD? Apart from the obvious lung damage and effects on the physical well being of a person a very large number of cases will end up needing supplemental oxygen full time.

Your best bet is to stop smoking and even if this is not an iron clad guarantee that you won’t develop COPD (the damage has been done), it will certainly reduce the over all damage.

Perhaps the most effective treatment is oxygen therapy. The results are positive as now patients are receiving the oxygen they require and are able to lead active lives. Receiving oxygen and being active allows patients to breathe (simplistic but true) and also to be able to maintain a life style with a certain amount of activity. This is recognized to be really important as physical health and psychological well being do go hand in hand.

There are two aspects that need to be highlighted.

The other point is that everyone expects an active life and this should also be combined with quality of life. If you are bound to a bed, whether in a home or a clinic, then for most people quality of life will be low. Oxygen therapy can now be delivered with more modern machines that allow most patients a certain level of activity - these machines include stationary and oxygen tanks.

How Effective Is Stop Smoking Gum?

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

It is very difficult to quit smoking for any smoker. The unpleasant signs of smoking cessation such as anxiety, headaches and mood swings tend to oblige the individual back into the habit. Particular remedies in the marketplace claim to offer relatively easy ways to quit smoking while reducing the effects of smoking cessation. One of those solutions is stop smoking gum.

People get addicted to smoking due the the highly addictive substance found in cigarettes called nicotine. Once a smoker gives up smoking, the daily dose of nicotine is stopped from his/her body . As a result, nicotine cravings act up and this generally induces the person back to smoking. There are ways that are employeed to prevent the smoker from resuming the habit and at the same time providing the body with the doses of nicotine to relieve the cravings. stop smoking gum is one way of replacing the nicotine.

This is how stop smoking habotrol gums work. This gum releases a small amount of nicotine once it is chewed and the nicotine is absorbed to the body through the lining of the mouth. Commonly, the gum should be applied when the individual develops an urge to smoke. Once placed inside the mouth, the gum should be chewed leisurely and purposely. Besides this, the users of stop smoking gums should also learn to park or to place the gum between the cheeks and the gum, periodically. This is done to assure the smooth transfer of nicotine form the lining of the mouth into the blood stream. If this technique is followed right, each piece of gum would last about 30 minutes.

However, chewing stop smoking gums as a normal chewing gum is not the correct way of usage. The users may experience an intense bitter (peppery) taste if it is not parked from time to time. Moreover, a significant amount of nicotine would be swallowed with saliva and when too much nicotine is swallowed, it will cause gastrointestinal aches and even nausea. Eating or drinking while using the stop smoking gum is not recommended as this would aid the swallowing of nicotine rich saliva. Furthermore, the gum should not be swallowed for the previous reason. The consumption of acidic beverages such as coffee, soft drinks and fruit juices should not be done at least fifteen minutes prior to the usage the gum to ensure its utmost efficiency.

Motivational Quit Smoking Tips That Can Work

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

In January almost every smoker makes a New Year’s resolution to quit smoking. Not many of these people are successful. If you are one of these people and are planning to pledge to quit smoking again this year you may be in need of a few quit smoking tips.

The first of these quit smoking tips would be to visit your family doctor. Have him test your heart, lung and your other vitals. After three to six months of successfully fulfilling your commitment to quit smoking, take another trip to your physician’s office and compare your latest test results to your previous one. You will be amazed at how much better all of your vital signs are. These results alone will help you to continue to stay smoke free.

Set a goal. Will your tactic be to quit “cold turkey” or to cut down to one or two cigarettes a week? Current data shows that quitting cold turkey has the best results. If you feel you need some help your doctor can give you smoking quit tips that may include medication. Be prepared for the various side affects that some of these medications can cause.

Make a dental appointment. Get your teeth cleaned and whitened. Removing the yellow from teeth comes at a price which should keep you smoke free. Another advantatge is not having the typical smoker’s breath.

Next on the smoking quit tips list is to recognize and realize that during this nicotine withdrawal period you may experience different emotional feelings. It is very typical of those quitting to feel despondent or irritable. These feelings are easier to handle if you know why you are experiencing them. Those around you will support your efforts even if you snap at them on occasion.

Get a comrad to join you in quitting so that you can be subject to each other. With a partner or friend to sustain and reinforce your goal you will be more successful

Write down the positive reasons to quit and the negative ones. I challenge you to find any for the negative side. First should be the increased athletic activity you will enjoy as well as dollars you will keep in your pocket. If the cost of a pack of cigarettes continues to rise eveyone will soon be quitting. Your children should actually be at the top of your list. They watch everything you do and want to imitate everything you do. Put the list on the mirror in your bathroom or on your refrigerator. If pressure to take a drag starts to mount, reread the positives for quitting.

Most all who visit this site have a true desire to stop smoking. This is probably not the first time you have considered quitting smoking but lets make it your final one. Throw away your cigarettes and begin a new and healthier smoke free life.
