As a competing athlete, you want your body to be able to perform at a maximum and it will be important that you get some advanced training. For those who are runners, your focus should be primarily on your legs and feet. This doesn’t single out the many other sports where leg strength is needed.

If you need your legs built, usually you would need to focus on exercises that are specifically for them. To perform well in sports, here are a few leg and foot exercises you can do.

Squats

To keep your thighs strengthened and in shape, this exercise is the most effective. It builds your thigh and calf muscles, making your overall performance in sports that much better. Find a weight for a barbell that would be about half of what you normally would lift on your shoulders, and position it on the back of your neck and shoulders. Bend until your thighs are quite parallel to the ground and then lift back up. You can do several reps before your take a break, then you can repeat your reps again. The more that you do this daily, the more you will find that you can increase the weight that you lift as days pass.

Hop Exercise

This is basically a one-legged jump to strengthen each of your legs one at a time. Each hop should be as far as you can on one foot, hopping until you reach about 20 meters of length in all. Now give your opposite leg a turn. After doing each length, take a little break. This exercise will greatly strengthen your thigh and calf muscles.

The Lunge Workout

Place your left foot 15 inches ahead of your right foot. Your body movement here should not be as an escalator (forward and back), but should dip straight down until your right knee touches the ground. Then get back up to your original position. Make sure you do reps for both legs, and switching to make the exercise even for both. Before doing another set, take a short break. Again this is a great exercise to keep your legs limber and strong.

You can gain leg and foot strength to better your performance in sports by doing the exercises provided. With the lunges, hops and squats you will be able to feel your legs stretching and tightening from your hips down to your toes, which only means that your body is getting the adequate exercise. Repeating these exercises daily will be a sure way to getting stronger legs for your next game or event.
